Sigulda concert hall "White piano" April 15th, 2023 Riga Old St. Gertrude church Song of Songs The Riga Project Choir's new concert program "Song of Songs" is dedicated to one of the books of the Old Testament, also often referred to as the "Song of Solomon". The program is built on contrasts. In the beginning, several motets will be sung from Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's grand cycle of 29 motets "Canticum Canticorum" ("Song of Songs"), which is also based on texts from this book. However, in contrast to the music written by Palestrina in 1584, six new modern works will be premiered, which were composed by six Latvian composers - Irīna Mihailovska, Evija Skuķe, Ruta Paidere, Gundega Šmite, Līva Bluma-Musačio, and Lauma Kazaka, using the same motet texts. The concert was made in cooperation with the congregation of Riga Old St. Gertrude's Church and the organ music concert series "Invited by Gertrude and Zauers", Sigulda concert hall "White piano". Supported by Riga Municipality, VKKF. |
