October 3rd, 2020 October 10th, 2020 (Streaming) "Tu jau zini Kur" Concert Space Sacred England The Riga Project Choir opened its third season with "Sacred England", a program built around a cornerstone of choral music, the a cappella mass. The program featured Herbert Howells' "Mass in the Dorian Mode", a masterful work of polyphony which the composer wrote during his time as a student. Also included was Benjamin Britten's cycle "A.M.D.G.", based on the groundbreaking poetry of English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins. "Sacred England" also featured works by Gerald Finzi and Howard Skempton. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the choir's "Sacred England" performances were not open to the public, and instead were presented in two concerts to a limited number of invited guests. To make the program available to as many listeners as possible, for the first time, the choir presented a streaming video version of the performance on the Riga Project Choir YouTube channel. |
