ARVO PÄRT. ST. JOHN PASSION

On April 3, 2026, Arvo Pärt’s St. John Passion — one of the most significant works of contemporary music — was performed at the Concert Hall LATVIJA. It is an ascetic and meditative narrative recounting Christ’s final journey. The Good Friday performance, featuring a distinguished ensemble of artists, was a unique event for the Concert Hall LATVIJA and was also broadcast live on Latvian Radio 3.

The performance was led by internationally acclaimed conductor Krista Audere and featured Edgars Ošleja (bass, Jesus), Mārtiņš Klišāns (tenor, Pilate), Jānis Kurševs (baritone, Evangelist), Kristofers Volšs Sinka (tenor, Evangelist), Dārta Paldiņa (alto, Evangelist), Agnese Pauniņa (soprano, Evangelist), Pēteris Ozoliņš (cello), Gidons Grīnbergs (violin), Pēteris Endzelis (oboe), Jānis Semjonovs (bassoon), Jānis Pelše (organ), the Ventspils Festival Choir, and the Riga Project Choir.

The production was prepared by conductors Aigars Meri and Kristofers Volšs Sinka, with visual design created by photographer Kristaps Anškens.

The event is organized by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” with the support of Ventspils State City Municipality and the State Culture Capital Foundation.
